It’s now officially advent and we’ve ramped up our Christmas crafting efforts. Next on our list is DIY Christmas crackers! You may have noticed a couple of Christmas crackers in last week’s blog post pictures, today we’re sharing a tutorial to make your very own Christmas crackers!
Christmas crackers are an integral part of Christmas celebrations in England. A cracker typically consists of a cardboard tube wrapped in a brightly decorated twist of paper, making it resemble an oversized sweet-wrapper. The cracker is pulled by two people, and, the split is accompanied by a small bang or snapping sound produced by the effect of friction on a chemically impregnated card strip (similar to that used in a cap gun).
Christmas crackers are surprisingly easy to make and you can fill them with personal gifts for your guests, making them much more special than shop-bought ones.
We’ve also got a free to download template for your Christmas crackers on our website. Download your template here, print it out, then follow the tutorial above to complete your cracker.
Have a go at the tutorial and let us know how you get on, we’d love to see your finished Christmas crackers!
